Time-series Photometry with MaxImTM
The PowerPointTM slides available for download here are part of a kit for a workshop I conduct on doing variable star photometry. The workshop is a full-day hands-on event, with up to 20 participants (all than can be handled by one teacher - me) who bring their own laptop computers. I provide a book of these slides together with notes, and a CD with the slides, 100 raw images of VW Hydri for calibration and a time-limited version of the MaxIm telescope-control, camera-control and image processing software, courtesy of Doug George.
I have conducted this workshop at various sites in Australia. At the Astronomical Society of South Australia, we followed up a Saturday workshop by doing some photometry that night on one of the Society's telescopes, and the next morning processed the images. Unfortunately, clouds somewhat minimized the usefulness of the imaging run.
I am happy to conduct this workshop anywhere, on a cost reimbursement basis.

I chose MaxIm as the vehicle for this workshop, and the slides, because I needed a software product that handled the whole business of photometry end-to-end without the need to use any other software - telescope and camera control, image calibration, and photometry. I also looked for a product that was easy to learn and to handle in a workshop situation, following Microsoft's user interface guidelines closely for familiarity.
In my own work at Woodridge Observatory, I use MaxIm for telescope and camera control and sometimes for calibration and photometry. But I certainly use other products as well.
